If you could change one thing about Medicare...

Kaiser Health News posed this question to a range of health care experts: If you could only change one thing about Medicare to control costs, what would it be and why?

The experts, including former Connecticut U.S. Rep. Nancy Johnson and Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini, offered a range of answers, but many focused on moving past Medicare's fee-for-service payment structure.

Read their responses here.

Unfortunately the facts are that the average individual pays into medicare( Employee,Employer and any interest on the trust fund for part A) approximately only $150,000 and takes out approximately $450,000. This can not continue as it, plus medicaid, is bankrupting the country.
The payroll tax( which covers part A only) must be increased and the premium for part B,C and D must also be increased substantially( today the government sets this at only 25% of the actual cost) and co pays must be increased.People have to be discourage from going to the Doctor time after time for very minor problems. If they had to pay a little more they would think twice about going. Seniors will not like this I know and I am age 80 on Medicare so know the facts. The politicians must stop telling th people that they have paid for this as they have not. AARP says the same thing which is wrong.
Someone must tell the pubic the facts. I have attended senior meeting after senior meeting in which someone(AARP,Politician etc ) have told them they are entitled to it as they paid for it. The problem is any honest politician that tells the truth would never be elected. This has been demonstarated time after time.
