Roldan was elected in 2006, succeeding Democrat Evelyn C. Mantilla. Republicans do not typically contest House races in Hartford, but Roldan did face an opponent in 2010. He also had to fight for the Democratic nomination, winning by just six votes after a recount against an unemployed convicted felon.
Roldan, previously an aide to former Mayor Eddie A. Perez, has one of the more eclectic bios in Hartford politics: He was born in Puerto Rico, grew up in Hartford's old Stowe Village housing project in a family of 10 children, attended Avon Old Farms and Middlebury. He speaks fluent Chinese.
Roldan is proposing "Buy Connecticut" legislation that would require state purchases over $2.5 million be made 51 percent of the time from Connecticut businesses and labor.
Roldan has said he is considering running to become the next mayor of Hartford.
The only income he reported was from the Hartford Public Schools and salary as a state legislator. He owns no real estate or securities above the $5,000 threshold.Roldan waived his confidentiality and reported owing more than $10,000 to Bank of America.
