Rojas won an open seat in 2008, succeeding five-term Democrat Christopher R. Stone. He won in 2010 with 55 percent of the vote against real estate agent Dennis Brenner.
Rojas was one of three House Democrats who voted for the Sustinet health bill during the regular session, then switched sides and voted to sustain Gov. M. Jodi Rell's veto. Democrats still overrode the veto with one vote to spare.
He served on the Board of Education and Town Council in East Hartford. Rojas was the first in his family to attend college. He lives in East Hartford with his high school sweetheart and three children.
Rojas reported income from Trinity College and his salary as a state legislator. He holds a mortgage for his home in East Hartford with Wells Fargo. He did not list any income from his wife but did disclose a retirement account in her name.Rojas filed a confidential addendum listing any debts exceeding $10,000.
