 Tercyak won a special election in 2003 to succeed his father, Republican Anthony C. Tercyak, who died in office. 

Background

Tercyak is a member of the Democratic leadership circle in the House. He is a deputy majority leader and, more perhaps importantly, plays guitar in "The Bad Reps," a rock band whose members include House Speaker Christopher Donovan.
