Election History

Endorsed by Democrats and cross-endorsed by the Working Families Party, Cook broke Republican Anne L. Ruwet's shaky grasp on this seat with a convincing 1,092-vote win in 2008. Ruwet won the seat by a single vote in 2002 and was re-elected by only 62 votes in 2006. Cross-endorsed by the Working Families Party in 2010, Cook carried 53 percent of the vote in her win over Republican Wendy Traub.

Background

A founder of the Torrington High School Parent Teacher Organization and still a member of the PTO council, Cook also is involved with the Torrington Early Childhood Collaborative, an advocacy group for early education for children. She and her husband, Christopher, have four children.

Cook is working toward a master's degree in special education at Central Connecticut State University.

She and other members of the Children in the Recession Task Force crafted and won approval of legislation that mandates formation of a state planning team to protect children's programs when the state unemployment rate tops 8 percent.
