Election History

Yaccarino defeated incumbent Democrat Steve Fontana in 2010.

Background

A North Haven native, Yaccarino has owned a sports collectible and comics store in town since 1991. In challenging Fontana, who has law and business degrees, Yaccarino, who has an associate's degree, argued that "representing the town effectively does not require a formal education."

Yaccarino said during the campaign that he is morally opposed to capital punishment, but that he has no choice but to support it in the case of "heinous and horrific crimes," and that the state's judicial system should be reformed so death row inmates do not get unlimited repeals.

He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

He has three children.
