Davis won an open seat in 2004, succeeding nine-term Republican Raymond V. Collins.
Davis grew up in New Haven and graduated from public schools and Southern Conecticut State University. He was a middle school and high school science teacher until his retirement in 2002. Davis was the varsity swim coach at Amity Regional High School for 27 years.
Davis, a retired teacher and swim coach, reported income from the legislature, a pension and the Woodbridge Club. He also reported receiving wages for servicne as an athletic official. His wife, Deborah L. Davis, is employed by Regional School District 1.
