Perone won an open seat in 2004, succeeding Democrat Bob Duff, who was elected to the State Senate. In 2010, Perone was cross-endorsed by the Working Families Party.
Perone voted with the Democratic majority on nearly every high-profile fiscal and social issue. An exception was his opposition in 2007 to the legalization of medical marijuana.
He was a member of the Norwalk Common Council from 2001 to 2003.
He is married and has one son.
Perone reported income from a company called Unit 7 and from William Pitt Sotheby, a real estate broker. He and his wife, Christy Perone, own a home in Norwalk.
