Election history: Perone won an open seat in 2004, succeeding Democrat Bob Duff, who was elected to the State Senate. In 2008, Perone was cross-endorsed by the Working Families Party.

Public financing: Perone received $24,700 in public financing for his campaign under the Citizens' Election Program and returned a surplus of $467.16.

Background: Perone voted with the Democratic majority on nearly every high-profile fiscal and social issue. An exception was his opposition in 2007 to the legalization of medical marijuana.
