Rev. Stallworth never served in elected office until he ran to replace Rep. Chris Caruso, D-Bridgeport, who resigned to the join the Malloy administration. He serves as a pastor as the East End Tabernacle Baptist Church, as well as vice president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance. Stallworth holds the distinction of being the first African American to serve in the 126th District.
