The State Elections Enforcement Commission voted Wednesday to approve public-financing grants for Sen. Toni Boucher, R-Wilton, and 14 candidates for the state House of Representatives.

More than 75 percent of legislative candidates are expected to seek public financing, a voluntary program that imposes contribution limits of $100 and spending limits. Grants for the general election are $27,850 for a House race and $94,690 for a Senate race.

Grants were approved Wednesday for:

  • Rep. Brian Becker, D-West Hartford.
  • Eric Berthel, a Republican seeking the open seat being vacated by Rep. Sean Williams, R-Watertown.
  • Devin Carney of Old Saybrook, a Republican seeking the open seat being vacated by Rep. Marilyn Giuliano, R-Old Saybrook.
  • Noah Enslow, a Republican running in the 47th House District.
  • Rep. Minnie Gonzalez, D-Hartford.
  • Dennis E. Mahoney of Stamford, a Republican running in the 147th House District.
  • John Mazurek of Wolcott, a Democrat running in the 80th House District.
  • Cara Pavalock of Bristol, a Republican running in the 77th House District.
  • Christopher Rosario of Bridgeport, a Democrat running in the 128th House District.
  • Sean Scanlon of Guilford, a Democrat seeking the open seat now held by the retiring Rep. Patricia Widlitz, D-Guilford.
  • Rep. Jonathan Steinberg, D-Westport.
  • Cristin McCarthy Vahey of Fairfield, a Democrat seeking the open seat in the 133rd House District now held by Rep. Kim Fawcett, D-Fairfield. She is running for state Senate.
  • Fred Wilms of Norwalk, a Republican seeking the open seat in the 142nd House District. It is now held by the retiring House Minority Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr.
  • Rep. Lezlye Zupkus, R-Prospect.
